UHF radio waves have shorter wavelengths than VHF, which gives them superior ability to penetrate walls, concrete structures, elevator shafts, and multi-story building materials. In professional enterprise radio deployments, the 400 to 512 MHz portion of the UHF band is most commonly used. This makes UHF the preferred frequency band for indoor radio communication in hotels, hospitals, convention centers, arenas, and office buildings. Most Motorola Solutions commercial radios — including the R2, R5, and R7 — are available in UHF configurations. For very large or structurally complex indoor venues, UHF radios are often paired with BDA and DAS in-building infrastructure to ensure consistent signal throughout every floor, stairwell, and operational area.
